The quarter is finally over. After final presentations for studio, I went home and slept for 14 hours (no joke), and now I'm back at it and ready to share what I've done!

Behind my thoughts on the project:
This project has been meaningful to me because both of my parents are Physical Therapists. My Mom works exclusively with elderly people, and I grew up hearing about the various problems they have, what current opportunities there are to fix those problems, and the various issues with the current health system. What has become apparent to me is that health problems for elderly people are like an avalanche. The beginning of one problem affects the next, and it becomes a quickly complicating process that can lead to premature death. One of the top factors in this for the elderly is the contraction of a Urinary Tract Infection. UTI's can cause confusion and other mental problems as well as putting otherwise healthy and balanced people at risk of falling. One statistic I found was that 5% of elderly people diagnosed with a UTI will die within 28 days. This number seems big, but not too big, until you add that up to 20% of people living independently and 50% in long-term care facilities will be diagnosed with a UTI. I also learned that elderly people are prone to a loss of thirst sensation, and thus also to dehydration. Dehydration is not the only factor in UTI contraction, but it is one of the main ones.
Now it's almost safe to say that everyone knows being dehydrated is bad, and everyone knows that you should drink water. But if that is the case, why aren't elderly people drinking water? Statistics also show that 6% of elderly people who are hospitalized are diagnosed with dehydration. Obviously whatever methods are being used to encourage elderly people to drink water are not working, and that is where my project starts. Elderly people need to be reminded to drink water, and they need their water consumption to be connected to something they value.
